What I Wish I had Written in Your Christmas Card
For many years, I have celebrated Christmas in a superficial, secular way with a thin veneer of religiosity.
My nativity scene says it all: a man, a woman and an infant, well fed, clean, well dressed (by 1st century Palestine style), good looking and comfortable. This obscures and minimizes the abasement, humiliation, and degradation that Jesus chose in order to become my teacher, my healer and my savior.
Now I see God’s son, a tiny, cold infant wrapped in rags and cradled in barnyard straw.
This vision makes me, a hardened, rebellious sinner, fall with my face to the ground and cry “My God, why have you done this for me?”
